Star of the week: Julian Ortiz 10/17 – 10/21
Antonio’s birthday was Wednesday and his family brought pizza and snack bags. He has an older sister. His favorite color is orange and his favorite place is Disneyland.
Sharing: The beginning sounds for sharing are “E” or “F”. The purple team shares on Tuesday. The red team shares on Wednesday. The yellow team shares on Thursday.
Special dates: Friday, October 21st is a noon dismissal for a faculty meeting.
Field trip: Our trip is Thursday, October 20th. Please plan to arrive at 7:45 and have your child use the restroom. Students will board the bus and we will meet you at the pumpkin patch.
If you are planning on using this time for your parent participation hours you might want to check with the office that you are cleared. If you have had fingerprinting done the paperwork may not have arrived at the office. When you turn in hours you can now log into School Speak to register your time.
Students wear uniforms. Bring a sack lunch, which students will eat when we return to school. A snack and drink will be provided while we are on the trip. We will keep the pumpkins for a project and send them home the following week.
Fruits of the Spirit: We send a cutout home once a week for you to write what your child has done to demonstrate an act of mercy. You can send as many notes on any paper as you like and on any day of the week. I collect them, we share them, and I return them so that your child can take them up at morning assembly on Wednesday. Our class has done an outstanding job participating in this program. Thanks for your involvement!
Parent participation: Max/s mom, Julian’s mom, Carlos’ mom, and James’ mom have all helped this week.
Fundraising dollars: Darlene Hurtado, the lady in charge of our candy sale wanted to remind new families that the dollar amount you sell does not equal the dollar amount for your fundraising obligation. In other words, if you sell $200.00 of candy or product it counts as $100.00 toward your fundraising goal.
There are two other fundraisers this year. There is a Dinner Dance and a Jog-a-thon.
Extra work: Max, Maryam, Nicco, Anthony, Azlyn, Calliape, Emily, Elise, Carlos, Jaimasyn, Joseph, Vincent, James, Arlette, Brianna, Jacob Donatelli, Alessandra, and Sebastian have all turned in work this week. Sebastian’s family is using the web site, kindergartenworksheets.net for some of his extra work.

October birthdays: Vincent and Zander each had birthdays and their families brought treats and goodie bags for the class.
Sharing: The sounds for the next two weeks are “E” or “F”. Blue team shares on Tuesday. Green team shares on Wednesday. Orange team shares on Thursday.
Computer lab: Today was our first time using the lab with the entire class. I think it went well and we will use the headphones the school purchased for our class on our next visit.
Sweater/jackets: If your children want to take off sweaters or jackets they put them in their backpacks. If they fall out of the backpack I have a much easier time returning them if their is a name on the clothing. If you have been lucky enough to get one from the school’s uniform exchange, please put your child’s name on that as well.
Candy sales: Keep up the good work! Our class got the shark a second time!
Rosary: Sr. Isabel was able to get a class set of rosaries for everyone to use during the month of October. We say a decade every morning with the school.
Fruits of the Spirit: Students are encouraged to think about what works of mercy they can do and share their experience by writing on any small piece of paper what they have done. We collect those “fruits” on Wednesday at morning assembly.
Kids Disciples: Mr. Espinoza, our fifth grade teacher, took our class to church so we could learn that this is a place we can come any time to have a conversation with God.
Adopted student in Haiti: Your children have already brought in $65.30! They have been socially responsible at such a young age. I am sure that is a reflection of your good example. Thank you also for your donations to the Holy Family Table.
Field trip: We have a bus for the trip, but it only has seating for kindergarten and first grade students and two teachers. We still want all of the family members and chaperones to come but hope you can carpool with each other.
Classroom donations: Zander’s family brought fall craft items for us to work on. Eli and Julian’s families brought snacks.
Extra work: I am so proud of your children for their enthusiasm for learning! Every day they share with their classmates what they did at home to extended their learning. They also earn a chance ticket because they have chosen to do something extra on their own time. Since there have been so many great examples this week I am listing names rather than explaining what they did. We have seen extra work from Calliape, Sophia, Carlos, Jacob Donatelli, Jaimasyn, James, Joseph, Eli, Jacob Morgan, Julian, Sahaij, Zander, Max, Brianna, Sebastian, Maryam, Arlette, Devin, Alessandra, Emily, Azlyn, Isaac, Elise, Santiago, Francisco, Anthony, Austin, Nicco, and Vincent.

Haiti: So many of your children have contributed to our school in Haiti. Thank you for your generosity!
Classroom supplies: Elise brought in Clorox wipes. Zander brought pencils and glue sticks. Emily brought graham crackers. Devin and Isaiah brought snacks.
Consonants: Your children are learning that sounds are made by air. If their tongue, teeth, lips, or any combination of those are blocking the air then the letter is a consonant. An example would be the sound of “B” and that your lips are blocking the air.
Math: We are matching number symbols with quantities and putting numbers in order to 30.

Max had his birthday on Sunday and his family brought goodie bags for the entire class. He likes to play basketball, dig in the sand, and go to the Chuckie Cheese.
Sharing: The beginning letter sounds for sharing are still “A” or “B”. This week Purple team shares on Tuesday. Red team shares on Wednesday. Yellow team shares on Thursday.
Parent conferences: Monday (9/26), Tuesday (9/27), and Wednesday (9/28) are all minimum days for conferences. The entire school will be having conferences so we have tried to keep family conference times together. This means that I will not have much flexibility with making changes to the schedule you received.
These conferences are limited to 15 minutes each to try to accommodate all families. I will do my best to keep to that time so that no one has to wait, especially since you have probably had to make special arrangements to be here for your child’s conference.
If for any reason we need additional time or to change a conference date, I will do my best to work with your needs since we are partners in your child’s learning experience.
Friday folders: I am saving some of your child’s work to show you at conferences so there will not be any student work in this Friday’s folder.

Candy sales: Our class earned the shark one week because you have sold so much candy and turned in the money. We took a class photo with the shark. You children were certainly excited!
Ice cream social: Our room moms did a great job organizing our social. Thanks to all of you who were able to come.
Field trip: We had a note and permission slips go home regarding our trip. Hope you will be able to join us.

Isaiah had his birthday on Thursday and his family shared a treat with the class. Isaiah likes basketball and super heroes. His favorite book is Cat in the Hat.
Special dates: School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, September 14th. Students wear the uniform for this picture. Pictures are taken again in the spring with free dress.
Field trip update: Parent club had a meeting and agreed that additional funds can be allotted to pay for a bus. Now we are waiting to make sure the Diocese approves the bus company. Plan on a field trip for the pumpkin patch on Thursday, October 20th. More information will be coming home.
Sharing: We will begin sharing time on Tuesday, September 13th. Your child will bring home a small colored canvas bag on the day before they have sharing. I would like students to bring an item that begins with the letter sound ‘A’ or ‘B’. We will work our way through the alphabet in order to make it easier to keep track. I will also remind your children about the letters for sharing and put it in our weekly update.
Tuesday the blue team will share. Wednesday the green team will share. Thursday the orange team will share. The following week purple, red, and yellow teams will have their turns. Your child knows what color team they are on and the bag they bring home the day before will remind you of what color team they are on.
Lunches: If you are purchasing lunch or milk cards, I will send a note to remind you on the day they use their last card. You are always welcome to check the pocket chart on the door of our classroom or email me and I will let you know how many lunches or milks are left. Even if you run out of cards we will always make sure your child has a lunch.
Thank you for letting me know when you are bringing a lunch later for your child. We are trying to avoid charging for a lunch if it isn’t necessary.
Mass: Your children have been reverent at Mass and listened to their buddies. Thank you for giving the older students an opportunity to be role models.
Prayers: I am sending home a list of the prayers your child will be learning during the school year.
Parent help: I have sent a parent helper calendar home with the families that filled out the pink form that went home. A few forms didn’t have names so if you want to email or send me a note in your child’s folder I can still add people or make adjustments to the schedule.
Friday folders: Any work I send in the Friday folder is for you to keep. I try to save a sample so you will know what we are working on and how your child is doing.
Homework: Thank you for helping your child learn the routine of budgeting time for their work and reminding them to put names on their work. They have been doing a great job!
Extra work: Anthony read a book to his mom and made his own match the shape page. Elijah practiced color words and Math Mountains. Vincent and James worked on writing their first and last name. Max practiced writing letters and numbers. Jaimasyn and Austin practiced color words. Santiago practiced writing the alphabet and numbers. Calliape turned in workbook pages. Thank you for encouraging your child. It helps them understand that learning something takes practice but can also give them pride in their effort. It also lets me know they are talking to you about what we work on in class. I have enjoyed your family’s creative efforts!

Star of the week: Isaiah Douglas 9/6 – 9/9
Carlos had his birthday on Wednesday and his parents brought treats and goody bags for students. Carlos has a younger sister. His favorite animal is a giraffe and he would like to be a fire fighter some day.
Special dates: Ms. Ramirez birthday is on the 4th. The class helped her celebrate on Friday. Monday is no school in honor of Labor Day. Friday is a minimum day for a faculty meeting. School pictures are the 14th and students wear uniforms.
Ice cream social: Just a reminder to reserve Wednesday, September 14th for a kindergarten family social at 6:00 at the school.
Parent helper notes: Thank you for responding so generously. I will try to have a calendar of helpers ready for September 9th. If the dates and times don’t work for you, let me know and we can make adjustments. If your name isn’t on the calendar and you want to be included we can add people. Some notes were returned with no names so I am not sure whose folder they came from.
Lunch: Orders for hot lunch need to be turned in to the office by 9:00 a.m. If you know you are bringing your child a lunch please let me know. If we don’t see a lunchbox on the bench for your child and don’t know you are bringing one we order a lunch and then your family is charged. If your child is arriving after 9:00 and would like a hot lunch please let the office know so we can place your order.
If your child is bringing a lunch from home but would like to order milk there are milk only tickets. If you order a hot lunch milk is included.
Extra work: Several students have sent in extra work. They are Elijah, Max, James, Santiago, Austin, Vincent, Devin, Zander, Brianna, and Emily. It is amazing to see how enthusiastic they are about learning!
Prayer at assembly: I am sending home a copy of the prayer the school recites at morning assembly.
High frequency words: I will send home a list of sight words but it is more critical that children know the name and sound of the letters with automaticity. Some students have mastered this skill and I would suggest that along with the sight words the short vowel sounds and reading fluency is practiced.
